STUDIES

Erik has an MFA in Sculpture from the University of Oregon, Eugene; and a BS Degree in General Studies with emphases in Literature and Psychology, Portland State University, Oregon. He is also a graduate of the Oregon Military Academy, Class Two-Zero, where he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, US Army Infantry.

WORK

Erik has worked in a number of occupations, including: Laboratory Analyst at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research; Production Development Analyst for North American Aviation—where he worked on the escape rocket module of the Apollo Moon Rockets; Group Insurance Representative for Standard Insurance of Portland, Oregon; English teacher in Japan; a Display Designer for Nordstrom, and an Advertising Copywriter. He retired as a Senior Probation Officer for San Diego, California.

STOICS

Erik Wiegardt was the Founding Director of the Stoic Registry (1996-21); Founder and First Scholarch of the College of Stoic Philosophers (2008-21); Founder and President of the nonprofit, New Stoa, Inc. (2015-21); Founder and Abbot of The Stoic Monastery (2019-present).

AWARDS & COMMENDATIONS

2023: Knighted for his work as "Father of the Stoic revival and Re-founder of the Stoa;" awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Duke Ketel (GCDK) under the auspices of the House of Savoy.

2003: Chief's Award: Letter of Commendation for revision and instruction on procedures and protocols of the Interstate Compact Unit for the San Diego County Probation Department.

1998: Special Congressional Recognition for participation in Operation White Coat, a Biochemical warfare research unit of the Vietnam War Era.

PERSONAL

Erik was born in 1945 in Walla Walla, Washington, USA, and has lived all of his life on the Northern Hemisphere of the Pacific Rim. He currently lives on the outskirts of San Diego, California, with his wife of nearly 40 years and a Chihuahua dog.
